The museum complex was designed to house exhibition halls, conference halls, open air spaces to host various cultural activities, sculpture gardens that serve community and accommodate various touristic attractions within the Troia UNESCO World Heritage Site.Architectural design of the museum building evokes this understanding with its inspiration from one of the most prominent passages of Iliad in Book 18, ''The shield of Achilles''. The story told in this book is about a shield with inscriptions of war and peace scenes in between structural layers of metals.
The shield in a waybecomes a symbolic expression of history of mankind, the never ending continuous struggle between war and peace among nations. The museum design as a form of an artistic interpretation of a shield was designed to become a center that draws crowds from around the world belonging to different cultures, religions, languages, races and gathers them under a single roof that is split into two. The project becomes an accumulation of many poetic, lyrical translations of Iliad's transformation into symbolic perspectives within the abstract void.
